PREPEP intends to mobilize the nation’s efforts to restore hope for a better future to our youth, in a country that belongs to the exclusive club of prosperous nations, by giving each citizen a chance to change their life for the better. This will be achieved through a determined and relentless fight against the widespread unemployment affecting this youth. According to estimates from the United Nations Population Fund, Haiti’s population is about 11 million inhabitants. It is a very young population, as 54% are under 25 years old, with 31% in the age group of 10 to 24 years. Therefore, the weight of Haitian youth calls on political decision-makers to give young people an important place by defining a public policy focused on youth.
PREPEP intends to use youth as the driving force for the country’s economic and political development. To achieve this, the party will make every effort to build thirty model vocational schools in the main cities of the country to address youth unemployment.
Representing the majority of Haiti’s population, young people are the most affected by unemployment. According to UNDP, about 200,000 young people enter the job market each year. 61.9% of those aged 15 to 19 are unemployed. Likewise, 50% of those aged 20 to 24 face the same situation. It is expected that a significant portion of Haiti’s population, represented by youth, is exposed to poverty.
PREPEP aims to reverse the youth unemployment trend by lowering the retirement age to 65 and enforcing legislation on voluntary departure. It is absolutely necessary to make the civil service law mandatory. To combat youth unemployment, PREPEP will implement a loan policy for new graduates. They will receive the necessary support to ensure the success of their projects.
Finally, the party will take all measures to ensure that the portfolio of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action is always entrusted to a young person with the required skills to lead this Ministry.
